Cybersafe (8-11 YRS)

Internet safety is on the mind of every parent. It is estimated that two out of three households have a computer and access to the Internet. While this means access to many valuable resources, it also means that there are risks involved.

Think about this: 26% of kids ages 9 – 15 went to meet a friend that they met online without the permission of their parents. What that tells us is that kids either don't know the rules, or don't understand the seriousness of the threat.

CyberSafe covers the topic of Internet safety through interactive, non-threatening and entertaining lessons. Group work helps students:

  • Identify between the real world and the online world
  • Role play and use scenarios to increase critical thinking skills
  • Learn skills to help identify the tricks that predators will use to gain information and trust
  • Explore safe surfing and responsibilities
  • Learn online definitions and etiquette
  • Understand cyberbullying
  • Get the most out of the Internet while staying safe

Written by Samantha Wilson, Cybersafe focuses on teaching kids how to recognize warning signs, safe and unsafe situations, and the skills they need to make safe choices.
